So excited to post my first review here! I have read 400+ books in the past 2 years but am now diving into reviewing what I read.
I will be going back and re-reading some older books, so definitely keep an eye out for those reviews!
For now, let's dive into my review for That's Why the Lady is a Tramp by Merry Farmer. You can find the book & plot here.
The Good:
Plot - I loved the plot of this book because it felt unique to the rest of the genre! I've read enough books and have seen the same story play out multiple times across many authors. The characters are different, and so are the writing styles; however, the general plots sometimes feel the same. This book is nothing like that! I have never seen a plot similar to this, and it was a great start into the 4 part series.
Because of the nature of the character's relationship, it was interesting to see how they started with a sexual relationship and grew into love. In contrast, most other books in this genre usually show love (with desire) and then sex.
Main hero - Now, as a general hero, Samuel Rathborne-Paxton is very likable. I do want to point out that I generally prefer broody/challenging heroes, and that's not the case with the hero in this book. This is obviously not on the author as this is just my personal preference, but I wanted to point it out in case this was true for others.
Level of steam - Generally liked the sex scenes in the book, definitely bought the chemistry between Sam and Alice! Because the hero wasn’t super broody/intense, the sex scenes were good, but didn’t have the intensity I typically go for (again, this is just a personal preference of hero personality).
The bad:
There really wasn't anything significant I would say I didn't like about the book.
Character development - I felt that some parts of the book might have moved quickly, and the character development felt a bit hurried. This could be because this book felt a bit more lighthearted and shorter than The Mayflower Series, also by Merry Farmer.
Would I recommend it?
Yes, I would absolutely recommend this book. I've never been disappointed reading Merry Farmer's books before, and that stands true with this new series as well.
